Gary Matthews has done wonderful things for the achievement in our schools. He is in our building and at our professional learning events. We finally have a superintendent who focuses on achievement, instruction, quality leadership. He is the best thing to happen to NCSS in decades of leadership. If we can keep him a while and keep an educator on the school board maybe we can ward off these demons that creep up in our hallways talking bad about Mr. Matthews. We don't need board members telling us how to run our middle school. We need board members on a board of "education" who have an education and have been in classrooms. I thank heaven I am in NCSS because our top leader is well respected in our building despite some of the central office trashing of him from his right hand man.
Mr. Matthews is too consumed with wanting to leave for Louisiana that he has failed to follow through. He brags about professional learning and skips out on the early release professional learning. Transportation is another example as is his bad mouthing Newton High ans Clements Middle to other schools after Mulligan leaves.
so why am I at church and the talk is all about this? ENrollment will not go up if the superintendent has principals pull and hold high school diplomas just cause a kid ran into his car in the partking lot. This is an outrageous abuse of power would have never happened to a senior from the east side of town. Is the board looking into this? What does policy say about a fender bender in the parking lot and a yanked diploma? Good way to lower your rate of graduates.
