Perhaps Baxter should find a new place within the 30014 to build or just move out all together! Who needs change and growth anyway?
Tommy Hailey cannot be replaced! No one can fill his shoes! He has done so much for this community! Change is inevitable though because change is ongoing in this world! Someone else will come along and we can only hope he is half the man Tommy Hailey has been for our community! Thank you Tommy for everything you have done for this town and it's youth!
It is absolutely amazing how the decision put in motion by Dr. Steve Whatley and Dennis Carpenter is no longer “set in stone”! I believe all the Faculty at Ficquett was informed of all this in 2009 – 2010 school year. All the faculty was told this is a “done deal”. They were told in order to get funding for a new Newton High School and a new Elementary School the old buildings (Newton High, Ficquett, and Palmerstone) had to be phased out. This was reiterated to the Faculty and Staff at Ficquett by Dr. Matthews and Dennis Carpenter in the 2010 – 2011 school year. )Refer to Newton Citizen article 08/01/2011; Palmer-Stone was phased out of state funding along with Newton High School and Ficquett Elementary School).
They were told of the plan to house the Newton County Theme School at the old Ficquett building(during phase-out period) and to expand the Newton County Theme to Eastside High School with grades K-12. They were told Eastside was built as a transition school and Eastside would become the new Newton County Theme School. Faculty and Staff at Ficquett tried to get people in the community to listen and no one heard anything they had to say! No one wanted to hear anything they had to say! The county lost a lot of good Faculty and Staff with this move at the end of the 2010-2011 school year!
Now that time is running out (for phase out period)and there has to be a place for the Newton County Theme School to move to and the people are realizing the plan for Eastside it is like a “wake up call”!
YES we do GSM! Especially the leaders from the NCBOE!!!
The child(2nd grader) a few years back that ACCIDENTALLY brought a 9mm weapon to school because someone hid it is his backpack! I suppose the school should have just given him a pat on the back because he did the right thing and turned it in! The child should have never had a pellet gun without proper supervision of a parent!!! Stop making excuses people!!
To gsm 7476: Is someone writing for Dr. Matthews here?(gsm?Just saying! There are 2 sides to every story! Whoever is in CHARGE of the Newton County School System should have nipped this in the bud before it escalated to the point where any of this had to even be printed in any newspaper! Unethical behavior from Administrators and Newton County Board of Education employees should have been addressed immediately!
If you have been in this county long enough you know anyone else in the Newton County School System that behaved as unethically as the Carpenter's they have would have been ousted immediately!
All of the High Schools in Newton County have issues. You don't hear about Eastside's issues because they are swept under the rug. Parents and Grandparents are notified by local law enforcement (especially the CPD) to come pick up their children so they don't have to arrest them. I know this because I saw it and knew of it happening. Parts of Newton County still have the "good ole boy" system!
I would like to know what our president is doing about the high gas prices! And furthermore I didn't hear the news report that Obama and/or his wife has been to New Orleans to check on and investigate the amount of damage from Hurricane Isaac! Maybe I missed it!!!
Ezell has my vote!
