If the purpose of education is to create worker bees, why don't local industries fund our county shcools and thereby have a say in what is taught and the tests that must be passed to get thier jobs?

Also teaching magic and myths will not rase the math and science scores of Newton County students so that they can compete for those technology jobs. Faith does not repair hard disk crashes.

Freedom does not mean free from responsibility. I hear and read the word “Freedom” almost daily. What do the people who call for “Freedom” really mean? If their definition is that they can do anything they want without repercussions or responsibility then I don’t think I want them to have the “Freedom” they claim to want. For example I’m not willing to allow someone the freedom to rob and injure me without any consequences. I’m not willing to allow a business the freedom to sell products that the people running the business know – in advance – that customers will be injured or killed without any accountability. As was said almost a century ago “Your right to swing your arms ends just where the other man’s nose begins.” The idea of freedom with responsibility is essential to the survival of any society.

Humans are social animals. We have survived because we banded together so that we could help each other and ourselves. The first level of socialization is the family unit: one adult alone could not both take care of young and provide food and shelter. We learned that if we banded together do more food production and protecting than hwn we were just two against the world. This model extends to tribes and nations. We are all socialists, get over it. It would really help if people that throw words like Socialism, Capitalism, Fascism, and many other “isms” would actually learn what they really mean and what they actually are in the real world.

Where were you righteous defenders of the constitution when G.W. Bush was putting people in jail without charging them for any crime? Where were you when the special political office was set up in the Pentagon to direct the invasion of Iraq? Where were you when the President, the Vice President and his political officer revealed the name of a serving C.I.A. undercover agent and got who knows how many people killed? Where were you when 5 members of the Supreme Court violated everyone’s civil rights by overturning the peoples’ votes and selected the President? Before we accuse Obama for trumped-up charges how about we arrest and try the real war criminals for torturing captives?

I didn't remember reading anywhere that the Baxter employee would be tax exempt from local and state taxes and fees. I expect that a good part of the $90 million per year in salsries will be spent loaclly. That will have a significant impact on local tax and fee collection. J.J. Hayden

Mr. Hay states the conservative perspective very well: "Trust but verify" as a famous former actor once read. However some of the preliminary statistics point toward optimism. The average (top-to-bottom) salary is expected to be $60K/year for the 1500 employees ($90 million/year total). The taxes and fees due Newton County are anticipated to be an amount about one half of this year’s budget without considering the impact of the salaries on the region. I agree that constant vigilance is essential; however it may just as likely be a glass half full rather than one half empty. If this leads to a collection of similar and associated industries setting up business in Newton County, it would be certainly tip the scales in favor of a positive rather than a negative for the county and region.
