Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. They don't make leaders like these anymore.
Most anyone would be better than the one that left. For sure not a surprise that good canidates don't want to work in Newton County school system with this BOE
Go around and ask all staff to give you a description of their jobs. If they can't give you a full days work- fire them.
I don't go out and buy a new car if I don't expect to have the money to maintain it and buy gas for it year to year, yet this is what is being done in local government and will only get much worse as these loans become due (can you say Bear Creek ) Many citizens have learned their lessons with losing their homes and credit card debt but our local government hasn't. Maybe the new commission will be better.
I will serve only one term if elected in 2014 in the 3rd. I believe in one to two term limits for ALL local officials.
People this is what I was saying in the SPLOST forum. You can only build with SPLOST as it stands today. When people vote for SPLOST they need to remember that it costs money year to year to maintain what SPLOST builds but can't be used to maintain. This will also be true on the ball fields being built, Agriculture Center, the other library, both courthouses, and the civic center if it is ever built. I say take the money that is bankrolled for the civic center and use it here after the 5 years is up and it can go to the general fund. Don't build something you don't have the money to maintain.
It is not right to increase any services charges to customers with the economy this bad. How can they increase service charges to taxpayers while giving all these freebies to Baxter?
The more I see out of John Douglas the more I like him
@Newtownqq- Following counties larger than Newton with lower unemployment, better school ratings, lower school millage rates----Columbia, Coweta, Paulding,Forsyth, Gwinnette, Cherokee, Cobb, Henry, Houston. If you have lived here awhile you will know that for awhile Newton was sold by the County commission as a bedroom community, then as a farming community. Newton can't excell by being labeled and sold as either of these type counties. We need to go after manufacturing as well as doing a better job at quality of life for it's citizens. I don't drink alcohol for awhile now, but to get good dining facilities you have to let alcohol by the drink go everywhere in the county and not just in the overlays. You have to get school mills down off the cap and performance up. You have to get crime down. The county commission has to go after getting jobs here themselves and not depend on others to do it for them. We have got to quit longterm bonding and borrowing that pushes the county deeper into long term debt.
