Hey mansfield, the county was "burdened" with the previous law more so than with the new one. At least now if you live on 2 acres and are 100 yards from the neighbor's dwelling you can shoot. The previous ordinance stated you could not shoot within 100 yards of any buliding, including your own - with no minimum acreage. But how many cases are there really where a shooter could be on less than 2 acres and more than 100 yards from any dwelling to shoot? Except for oddly shaped lots, not many. To me the new law is less restrictive.
You are correct, even the old law prohibited the type shootings you hear about in the Silos. Murder is more likely in Atlanta than in Mansfield but does that mean we do away with or relax murder laws in Mansfield? I realize there's a huge difference between murder and recreational shooting but the same parallel could be drawn wih speed laws. Do we do away with or lessen them simply because a few people choose not to obey them? Just some thoughts.
So will the new law shift penalty of local election violations to the municiplaities or will it remain with the state?
Paul Broun will withdraw from his senate bid and stay our 10th Congressional District Representative. There is nothing for Mr. Douglas to run for.
Billy, I have 43 acres and if I get 350 yads from my house to shoot I am off my property - in any direction. The Charlie Elliot firing range is nowhere near 43 acres. Reconcile that for me please - since you are a poli-sci major and all. I have a friend in the western part of the county with 100 acres. Should he have to go to a firing range? Common sense laws and citizens exercising common sense makes for a safe environment. It takes both.
Paul Broun has not been able to raise money for his senate bid so he will remain in his US Rep. seat. There will be no congressional seat open. Wake up folks.
The other half of the question is - who at the county office allowed a county contractor to operate without the proper paper-work for 10 months last year? A breakdown no doubt!!
My son loves this camp! By attending the banquet you may afford a child a life-changing event. It is clean family fun so bring everyone. The food is great too!
We have a plan and it's called the 2050 Plan.
If the BOC does not adopt a plan then it becomes a free-for-all in D1 when Baxter gets here and the economy rebounds. We saw it in the other districts prior to the economic downturn. One man can say he will never vote for anything on the board but it only takes 3 of 5. All are in favor of the 2050 plan and the limits it places on growth in D1. So by all means you scrap it and watch what happens. The 2050 plan protects us in the long run.
Mr. Strauss is in favor of the 2050 plan because he wants to protect the rural and agricultural nature of D1 - you know...where he lives. Do your homework on the 2050 plan before spouting off at the mouth and you will clearly see that the plan protects D1.
