RV30015 9 months, 2 weeks ago on STEM institute planned for part of old Newton High; School board to decide on fate of remainder of building

These programs get grant money to start off like seed money but it is up to them meeting the goals listed in their charter when they are up for renewal to see if they can keep operating but taxpayers carry the weight of operating the grants don't pay that and if this one turns into the vocational school of the 1970's then we basically have Newton Shop Academy. More accountability needed on this one.

RV30015 11 months, 1 week ago on School board pegs internal candidate as next superintendent; Fuhrey will be first female superintendent

She is a game changer. We don't need any more change agents. We just got rid of two that never need to change any more games in Newton County. It is extremely embarrassing to have two board members who can produce no valid reason for voting against Mrs. Fuhrey. I hope they stay in the minority 2 votes and the 3 elected board members who make good common sense keep voting in 3's to keep the other 2 totally disempowered.

RV30015 11 months, 2 weeks ago on Newton Citizen Poll for May 5, 2013

The whole town is nutso. City council is pro loudmouthed signage. BOE is a train wreck. BOC seems to exhibit bipolar behavior in some seats and one has been checking into jail periodically? Seriously? The Chamber of Commerce is basically emptying out. Three employees out in six weeks and my friends in Morgan County know Baxter people who have bought homes there. Newton is a junkpile and the west side is chocked full of nuts and crime.

I hope the NEWTON BOE gets an overhaul in 2014 elections. Their grammar is shocking. Clearly they cannot do math or budget. No wonder private schools thrive. I hope they are smart enough at least to hire Sam Fuhrey. She lives in and is dedicated to NEWTON.

RV30015 1 year, 1 month ago on School board chair explains SPLOST projects

I really appreciate the honesty of the two elected offiicials out of district one telling the truth about the language. Anyone can overlook language but to come out and say hey, we are looking closely and we see this is not an "urgent necessity" so we want to be honest with voters. I will vote for honest leaders who come out with the truth no matter when they do it over this opaque cover up tax and spend on vague items stuff any old day.

RV30015 1 year, 1 month ago on County officials speak out about SPLOST language

@Henry - sounds to us like they are saying hey let's relook at this not trying to spend rather trying to save. Did you not see that? If enrollment drops the county needs fewer seats and they have the career academy to take some kids. WHen students leave their FTE dollars go with them. I agree with Meadors that SPLOST makes sense just not the way it is written in this referendum. They sound like - to me - they are watching out for us.
