Newtownqq 10 months ago on Attorney: No conflict with Nelson Heights

@ Dennistay54 I understand how you feel about taxpayers asked to pay more while giving money to non profits. What do you think the BOC is doing for miracle leauge? This will become part of the rec dept budget in the comming years. Why have we as a county been asked to pay for what a non profit wants? You think the SPLOST should not allow non profits to get taxpayer money?

John, I am not sure where you live but my property value has slide over the last 4 years. It seems that dennistay is right we need to cut the fat and letting go the high paid attorney is a good start. A public info person, come on can't Ellis speak for the BOC that is what he was elected to do. Also I see that JC is up to his old ways again! How bout we ask Baxter or this new film studio to create a community partnership and help fund these programs. All must be mindful of the millions Deal and the BOC have granted Baxter in huge tax breaks and this is why there is no money! Look at what Wal-Mart has brought crime, so now lets see what it has attracted cheap clothing stores and sub shops. Stop the waste Republicans!!

I am not saying I am against change , but the change was a great one. Plus info on why Baxter wanted this was not explained. I find it strange that Baxter pushed for the change, but never provided why. JDA needs to provide the public with answers!

Newtownqq 11 months, 4 weeks ago on BOC wants to promote Newton via video

Is this not what the Chamber is suppose to be doing? After all they do have a budget of over $500,000. Why can we not look to GPC or Oxford Emory, I am sure there are students their that would help with making a video. I think we should ask Hunter about this during his next budget, selling Newton County is his job and he has a budget for that!

I am proud that these residents stood up and stopped this crap! This is why the JDA is so dangrous they meet outside the public eye and no communicaiton is set up to inform the BOC or citizens to what they are telling companies like Baxter. It seems that Mort Ewing does the talking to the media about the Baxter project and we all know what he is about. John Douglass says he is against the group set up to study the gun issues in the county because they don't meet in public. Well John what about the JDA? They seem to be much more a threat to Newton than a few concerned citizens. What else do we owe Baxter? I think its time our BOC owes the citizens answers!

Newtownqq 1 year ago on Budget work sessions to be held throughout county

The 3.3% turn out was by design. I am just saying that this may not be appropriate and illegal. If you read the County Charter is states the meeting of the BOC at the Historic Court House. Yes it was approved that meetings could be held in mansfield, but it also should require a amendment to allow meetings outside the Historic Court House to take place. The 9% rating is much because of Members of Congress just saying NO so why not ask Paul Broun why earth is only 9,000 years old. We elected those who have the 9% approval rating!

This idea is crazy! Should Congress go door to door to the people ? This is just another way that John Douglass and his crew can keep the side show going! Everyone knows where the BOC meetings are and that they are in Covington. Everyone who has a car goes to the Tag Office down the Street to get their tags or pay taxes. Let the show begin!

@Dennistay I agree with what you are saying about those counties that are larger and doing better than us. Why? We need to look at what they are doing and react. It seems that to get crime down you need to support your law officers and Brown. But the BOC does not do anything but cut his budget. If you want to curb spending look at the county attorney. Well look what they Repbulican John Douglass and Maddox have done, they borrowed $21 million for the Dam and another $7 million for waste water plant. All at the same time when they are failing to complete projects promised in the last SPLOST. If we cant bond any SPLOST project why are we taking on loans to other projects?

@Denistay53 I urge you to run because its the only way to truly change things. You must look at a few key facts about Oconee County before you compare Newton to them. There population is fewer than Newton. As of 2011 its population was just at 33,000 compared to our 99,000. This is a key fact to look at when you look at unemployment. You also must look into the social economic factors at play Such as ; Race, Debt to incorme , real property values. These are just some small things that come into play. If you are gonna run you need to realize that comparing us to Oconnee is like comparing Newtown to Cobb. We all face different problems, to make an accurate comparison you need to find a county that has around 85,000 people and start from there. How are you gonna get better schools? It seems we build one here every 3-4 years? Thats not working and a deficit will be comming in 2 years for the school system. Maybe this is because of the low tax rates and breaks that WE OWE BAXTER as said by John Douglass. Bringing industy through tax breaks does not always pan out. I am not trying to pick any kind of fights with you an sometimes I feel we do agree on some things. You seem to be very concerned about things and I do feel that is a good thing. Far to much do people complain about politicians and high taxes, but when you ask if the vote most often its a big NO!
