John 2 minutes ago on Landscape contract awarded to G & G

Finally a step in the right direction to true fiscal responsibility & accountability to the tax payers of Newton County. We can thank the two Commissioners that started this ball rolling to get this former "good ole boy" contract fixed. Sorry Mort & Co. it starting to look like that song "Dandy" Don Meredith used to sing on MNF "Turn out the lights the parties over" But don't stop here there is much more to do and remember "one robin does not make a spring time".

John 4 days ago on School board pegs internal candidate as next superintendent; Fuhrey will be first female superintendent

I certainly wish Mrs. Furhey all the success in this new position. She seems to have the all the basic credinentals and experiences. Time will tell if this change can turn around this "run-a-way" train called the NCSS & BOE for the betterment of the students. One person cannot produce a sudden "game changing" event. IMO, it will take time and cooperation from the entire Newton County community & elected officals with the focus needs to be on properly educating the students from K to 12 with a whole lot less finger pointing & even more personal accountability, transparency & less building of "monuments" (aka new schools) 'cause it sounds like a good idea - brick & motar has never been proven to provide a better educated student. Getting back to the basics has always been a good & time proven approach when "revamping' is required an "fuzzy math" is no longer used as a sales pitch.. Again GL Mrs. Furhery, You have my support.

John 6 days, 17 hours ago on BOC hears employee insurance options

And that is better than Medicare part B w/Medicare advantage - medicare B went up, medicare advantage went up & copay increased. After the SS1.7% COL adjustment for 2013 I end up with a net incrseae of $20/month ,my wife $5.00 - and that is wiped out, plus some, by higher gas & food prices. And Obama & company want to find a way to further reduce the COL adjustment - the next number is 0%. Oh, I do pay property taxes and NC get their share of sales tax revenue including the SPLOST on what we spend in NC.

John 1 week, 1 day ago on Newton County detention officer faces sex assault charges involving female inmate

Kornbred, It is way to early to make any comment realtive to the detention officer being guilty or innocent. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that someone will tell a "story" just to get someone in trouble for no reason at all or for retaliation - this goes on in our school system all the time. This is why we have a thing called "due process of law" or maybe you missed that in school.

Whoever said anything about the Prez being Muslim on Fox news? Some (mainly Donald Trump) has questioned his birth place but it did take an awful long time to produce a copy. Heck, no one can renew a drivers license without one - oh I forgot - limo drivers, helicopet pilots and AF1 rides every where since 2008. Unless you are hearing impaired you only hear what is said on Fox news.

Shart15, Time to go back to school & bone up on your reading comprehension - seems like you failed the first time around. The Gates foundation set the rules. But this time around you pay for it!

John 3 weeks, 5 days ago on School Crime Report for April 19, 2013

When a school system performs below the average of Georgia schools for an extended period of time (last 16 years that I'm aware of). That is no great accomplishment as Georgia schools are rated national right near the bottom (Mississippi & Lousiana bring up the rear). i would be willing to bet a dime to a donut that there are students in other systems that exhibit continual misbehavior & disrespect too! So I say dennisstay53 is "Spot On"

John 1 month ago on ZIP change rejected by residents of east Newton

There was an earlier news story that basically stated someone contacted a Baxter representative on this zip code change requested & they responded they were not aware that Baxter did request a 30014. Possibly there is a thread of truth to what the Baxte rep. stated. Could it be someone(s) else that requested it for a special interest reason? Very possible, but they remain very quiet because they don't want their "slip to show".
