They canceled the meeting so they can all go to the SPLOST forum and help Stone fight for the SPLOST. This is the first time in county history that they have had people to come out publically and man up against SPLOST.
If this is voted down on March 19th the NCSS will not lose a penny. The current SPLOST will not runout until Dec 31 2014. They will have another election in Nov 2014 so there would be no lapse. This way they would know more about what they REALLY need and you as voters would be able to learn more about it. As far as property tax relief, please go to NCSS web site and read the SPLOST proposal. It says MAY get 30 million in taxpayer relief. They are borrowing 62 million dollars during the current SPLOST on Bonds and have already run up over 5.8 million in interest on these bonds. So if you do get any relief it want be for awhile and want last long. I am happy somebody is trying to tell the other side of the story. By the way even tho the property mills are maxed out they CAN raise this by calling a referendrum to do so. You also might want to look at what is going on in the DeKalb school system when you give them to much money. Our property tax has been raised every single year since passing the last SPLOST. Does this tell you they care about property owners?
Oh Man, I laughed my head off when i read this. Hey Newton Citizen if you will give me a job i promise i work for 2% less money than anyone else -lol-. Mr Ellis i think you need to drop your notion of filming these meetings unless you plan to air them on the comedy channel, sat night live or Leno. Oh Craig assured of making more money since he charges by the hour. By going ahead and voting on this the board risks a law suit coming from either direction. I have seen all kinds of bids in my 60 years but nothing like this. As the world turns these are the days of our board, lol I know this reporter HAD to laugh when she saw this fiasco going on.
Being concerned about wrong doing in our government is not whinning. If our forefathers hadn't been concerned about what was going on YOU couldn't be posting what you just did.
I'm confused about something that maybe this reporter can help clearup if she knows. On monday Douglas seemed to state that he had the votes for a 4 to 1 or 5 to 0 vote to put this out to bid and that if noone else did he would get the agenda changed and make motion for this. From this article, before this meeting he informed this reporter that they had changed their mind about putting it for bid at the meeting. Did they have an open meeting for ALL to agree for these change or could there have possibly been a private meeting that would bring up questions of sunshine laws? Something just strange that people come to a meeting expecting something to happen then something entirely different takes place.
It's broke and now it needs to be fixed. When you bid you can require that all license information (copy of license) with the bid. The board needs to go back and look at all jobs that have been given without bids to insure that they have current license, including the County Attorney's business. You also need to make sure anyone doing the lawn service has the required Georgia Spraying and Pesticide license including current yearly required training hours. ( From the Ga Dept of Agriculture) You have to have this to spray even roundup on someone else's property. They also have to have proper storage building to store these chemicals. If someone is going to cut the cost and not renew business license there is a good chance they want keep their Ga pesticide and training current as well which could lead to fines and liabilities for Newton county. Time for the board to review their Ethics Ordinance (part 2.1 i believe)
Thank you for the spelling lesson
Why would the BOE want to replace a high school that is as young as Eastside. Elementary my dear posters. They want a new high school farther East toward say- Baxter and Stanton Springs to entice those future employees to build and live in Newton. They can't justify an additional high school because enrollment isn't there. They can't wait until enrollment increases because they need the school already there as Baxter comes up to lure the new employees into Newton County and away from Morgan and Walton. This is just more undercover taxpayer givaways for Baxter. That's the same reason they are holding this election so early because the new school farther east is so important to them that they want two tries at it in case it fails the first go.
Don't think National or State Republicans care about losing Rockdale Elections. Better to let the Democrats ruin the county by taxing it's people to death. As long as Georgia elects majority Republicans they will be allright. Democrats will never win many rural counties in Ga. How do yall like your super high school taxes in Rockdale?
Bridges falling apart and roads crumbling. Answer by the board, is to give out two contracts without bidding and possibly saving money. One commissioner states that if it not broke don't fix it. Well commissioner our roads and bridges are broken so FIX them.
