Dr. Carpenter, I would like to give you a bit of career advice:
Stop applying for the superintendent position for school systems that are greatly larger than NCSS. You would do better to apply for a lower position in a larger system. Then, after a few years, you would be better qualified for that top position. You're still young enough to do this.
See, Covingtonian...some of us can be positive.
Honestly, Dr. Carpenter was not even close to being the most qualified for that job.
I wish Dale Robbins good luck as a finalist for that job. I had him for American History many years ago, and he is a fine upstanding gentleman.
If I made a mistake of 1% of that amount, I would be out of a job. Maybe if someone were paying attention to their duties and not constantly perusing the want ads....
They haven't put dog poop in my mailbox. Just saying.
Hey that's ok. My Eagle passed all of her EOCTs with 95% or higher. Chew on THAT.
Let me address one particular statement of that I do agree with:
"The children have a right to learn in a safe environment. "
Based on the number of youtube videos that are of fights at Alcovy, one can only surmise that an equal number (or more) fights don't get recorded and posted. Based on the evidence presented to the world wide web, Alcovy is NOT a safe school. It is the leadership of the school that has the responsibility to ensure that the children are safe. UNDER INFORMATION AND BELIEF, the leadership of Alcovy High School has not functioned in this capacity, and a change should be made.
I just googled "Information and belief" and got this from the free dictionary:
information and belief n. a phrase often used in legal pleadings (complaints and answers in a lawsuit), declarations under penalty of perjury, and affidavits under oath, in which the person making the statement or allegation qualifies it. In effect, he/she says: "I am only stating what I have been told, and I believe it." This makes clear about which statements he/she does not have sure-fire, personal knowledge (perhaps it is just hearsay or surmise), and protects the maker of the statement from claims of outright falsehood or perjury.
Hmmm. Pay close attention to the bolded part. Couldn't all the defendants in this case claim "information and belief" as the basis for their statements?
Did I wake up in the 1600's? We got ourselves an old fashioned witch hunt, ya'll.
Silly me... I was pretty sure that the Newton Citizen is not Newton County's legal organ, but ok. Adequate and legal method of notification - FAIL, again.
I ran across something interesting earlier some of you might want to look into.
Remember Richard Jewell, the security guard who was accusing of the 1996 Olympic bombing? Well he sued the AJC for libel, and in 2001 the Georgia Court of Appeals found that Mr. Jewell was a "limited-purpose public figure," only because he had given an interview after the bombing. By obtaining this status, Mr. Jewell had "the burden to prove by clear and convincing evidence that the accusations are false" in order to win his libel case.
Just food for thought....
