This may sound crazy (I am no lawyer...), but is email from an attorney considered an appropriate or acceptable method of communication for this type of legal concern? Seems illegitimate to me...Where is E Wendell Clamp when you need him??? This business needs to be nipped in the bud!
Billy, you have stated you have no children, and that causes me to wonder how much real interaction you have had with the public schools beyond your own education in Clayton County in the 70's and what you have read in the paper. I have taught in the public schools for 15 years; I have two children who have gone through the public schools; I have experienced good and terrible teachers and administrations, both as an employee and parent. By and large, the good outweighs the bad...and while I certainly can understand some folks' reasoning for choosing private schools or homeschooling, those choices come with equally concerning side-effects which are totally different from the public schools. There are obvious issues with the administration at Alcovy (and Newton County Schools, in general); yet, this is not the case everywhere. Thankfully, I teach in a system with strong academics, arts, and leadership - which is in stark contrast to your analogy comparing the schools to "cesspools of drugs, violence, and educators that are there to collect pay and pensions, not quality people with the children’s best interests at heart."........Public schools are not so terrible as you believe...
"defamatory comments that have damaged her reputation in the community and exposed her to public hatred.".......seems to me that this lawsuit and all of its amendments, responses, and related publicity have done more reputation damage than any anonymous online comments.
Here is a crazy thought - could this case (and its publicity) really be a ploy, distraction, or diversion from some other ridiculousness that could be lurking just around the corner?
Alcovy has been run by the students since the day it opened. Honestly, I am surprised there has not been a major accident or tragedy there yet...but that may be coming. It is a shame that such a beautiful facility is wasted on a bunch of thugs and hooligans.
