Outside of defending yourself, there should never be a discharge of a firearm outside of a licensed firing range or hunting property. If you disagree, look up the concept of "other people."
I'm pro 2nd Amendment more than anyone else on here, and vote that way, but I can't support any practice that threatens that right, and "I own property and a gun, and should be able to fire the weapon for any reason I please, at any time of day or night," does exactly that. Selfishness is not why the framers put that amendment in the U.S. Constitution. It was for personal defense and so the gov't can't threaten the people past a certain point. There is no legitimate argument to the contrary, other than "I can do whatever I want, whenever I want." Thinking like that I could never agree with or accept, especially on an issue as overwhelming important as this.
Our gun rights will be taken away, not because the gov't passes a law, but because a majority of the public forgets the above framer's reasons, and that because of gun accidents where people are needlessly killed or injured, where irresponsible gun owners discharge weapons for the fun of it, or leave them for others (minors) to misuse. Better to have sensible restrictions on discharging the weapons than a ill considered "wild west" alternative where others will surely get hurt--or worse...
Well, blast away, Stamm; don't worry about noise pollution, much less the safety of your neighbor. Outside of killing an attacking animal or defending yourself, there should never be a discharge of a weapon outside of a licensed firing range, PERIOD! Rich, poor, green acres, or in an apartment.
(BTW, if you don't like "interlopers" in "your" county, you are also free to move). The Dukes of Hazzard days are long past. This county has more than 100,000 people living here. It's part of metro Atlanta now, has been for years and years...
If people were responsible and considerate, you wouldn't have to have these laws in the first place. But, as the above post proves, people are selfish and irresponsible, couldn't care less about any one or anything other than themselves, so we have to regulate the discharge of firearms. Hate to have to state the obvious, but there's other people in the world who ALSO have rights...
When John Douglas was my State Rep, he helped me and my mother in several different areas, when the people on the phone just said no, and were happy to say it. If you have a problem with him, you've never had a problem with state government...
I'm also convinced. Not necessary because of the creationism/darwinism debate, but because I know that JC is Lord. Anyone who truly wants to know will find out. To anyone who doesn't, it wouldn't make any difference if you produced JC on the spot. Believe what you want to believe; as for me, I believe in JC, anything that attempts to contradict that is wrong from the outset...
Thank the Almighty for paving over long unused railroad tracks; having pickup trucks slamming on their brakes behind you at RR crossings because you don't want to bust a strut or knock your car out of alignment is a complete bummer. I wish they'd repave Pace and Usher downtown; it's long overdue...
Yes, hopefully, someone with a track record of success with experience in this same type of office. This is not an OJT situation or AA opportunity; hire someone who can do the job w/o drama and nonsense...
I appreciate your response, JJ, but the fact remains the same: the internet will render most B&M libraries obsolete, or too expensive to maintain by comparison, if not in the near future, certainly in the years to come...
The Internet is a monster. Mostly good, sometimes bad, it's changing everything, and almost overnight as well. Everything from the Post Office to Libraries are affected. The Internet is a gigantic library of sorts, and with time, most B&M libraries will become unnecessary. How will the library function in the Georgia summer, (which unofficially started this month, as far as temperatures are concerned)? You have to sympathize with the staff and patrons there...
JM, sincere thanks again for your efforts to improve schools and accountability, but you're a passenger on the Titanic, meaning public schools. Any alternative--private school, religious school, approved home schooling--beats public schools by a mile. If you're sending your children to PS, you're submitting your child to a grossly inferior teaching experience, along with gangs, drugs, violence, and staff that bears little comparision to quality people like JM. It's up to you, but PS is the worst option, and if you can manage it, (sometimes you can't), it would be in yours, and especially your child's, interest to choese an alternative route...
