I find it interesting that on the Friday that the county decides to give their employees a picnic and encourages all employees to come to show the county appreciation . Commissioner Sims has an awards ceremony on the square on Sunday of the same week for all longevity employees .Massey decides to advise the county to take more money from their employee's pockets. No raises in six years ,no paid holiday 's . And they wonder why the moral is so low ! Business as usual in Newton County !

Why would someone with this level of intelligence spend all his time making comments in the paper . So let me get this straight the Charter school is closing because it is failing the students and the state may not approve another year . So let's hold off a year and figure a way to start again without any improvements? Maybe you could start by hiring teachers that have more than a GED . What ever happened to a teacher having to have an actual college degree before they were allowed to teach our children. Don't throw these kids away give them a chance instead of just trying to get rid of them !

I sure wish Newton County could afford to equipt there patrol vehs . The County does not even have cameras in there vehicles and that should be mandantory for the safety of the officer and the general public . Come on Newton county try stepping into the 21 st century . You've come a long way but you still have a long way to go.

I personally am delighted to see that the city is looking into main street . There is a lot of missed opportunities . My wife and I were in Madison this past Saturday around lunch time and the downtown was alive with people shopping and having lunch . We owe it to our citizens and merchants to do all we can to bring the square back to life . Take a ride down to Madison and see a town that has it done it right. Maybe the city and county will let Mack help us out . He knows how to draw a crowd .
There was a fight involving JV Girlls teams from Henry County and Alcovy . Fans ran out on the floor and got involved with the fight . The Gym had to be evacuated ,games were cancelled . There was no security at the game . Not one deputy there to protect the students and fans . .Thank God no one was seriously injured .
Eastside and Newton game Saturday turned into a fisticuff out in the parking lot for two adult females . Back up had to be called for the Deputies working the game . There were seven cars with law enforcement officers ,some with dogs
What is happening to our schools and county ? How could you dare have a sporting event at a school and not have law enforcement presence there Can't wait to see the action on you tube ....
So let me get this straight you have many deserving officers with multiple college degrees at the Covington PD and yet you promote a person with a GED ( nothing wrong with a GED ) to the rank of captain over many truly qualified officers . Talk about home town cooking . This must give all the hard working men and women a warm fuzzy feeling .Hard work and qualifications are not as important as frienship or so it seems.
