Sunbelt Builders honored for safety

Sunbelt Builders Inc. recently accepted a check from AgriTrust of Georgia for winning the First Quarter Safety Initiative. Shown, from left, are Steve Kapp, Walt Savage, Kim Glanton and Sam Hay. The Quarterly Safety Initiative is a program conducted by AgriTrust, a self-insured workers’ compensation fund that services agribusinesses in the state of Georgia, to encourage safety training by its fund members. Winners receive a $2,000 prize if they have had no lost time claims during the quarter. Sunbelt Builders, founded in 1982 by Sam B. Hay Jr., offers design/build services, specializing in agricultural projects.

Georgia Department of Corrections recently announced the promotion of Jasmin Hill to chief probation officer for the Rockdale Judicial Circuit effective July 1. Hill will be responsible for the oversight of 13 staff members and the supervision of felony probationers in the Rockdale Judicial Circuit.

BB&T recently awarded a $1,800 grant to the Conyers Rockdale Council for the Arts to fund supplies and a pizza party for the non-profit's Artsmart Camp held June 17 to 20.

Rockdale County dentists, from left, Dr. Wayne Kerr, Dr. Doug Torbush and Dr. Ron Cavola volunteered their services for the Georgia Mission of Mercy, a two-day, free dental clinic hosted by the Georgia Dental Association and its Foundation for Oral Health. The GMOM provided free dental services to more than 1,600 patients during the event at the North Atlanta Trade Center in Norcross. The dentists were among the approximately 900 dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and dental laboratory technicians who donated more than $1.5 million in dental care to patients who would normally not receive this treatment due to Georgia lacking a dental safety net for dental services. To maximize the number of patients served each day, the clinic opened at 5 a.m. both days and completed patient treatment at 6:30 p.m.
