Covington begins major storm drainage project

Crews upgrading Gordy Street-Newton Drive storm water system

Because of drainage problems causing flooded streets and yards in the area of Gordy Street and Newton Drive in Covington, Ga., city work crews are placing drains and pipes along Gordy Street to move storm water toward Newton Drive and upgrading the infrastructure along Newton Drive and Dearing Street to handle the increased demands.

Sprinkler system credited with containing fire at 4D Printing in Conyers

Rockdale County Fire-Rescue is crediting a sprinkler system with containing a blaze that broke out early Thursday morning at 4D Printing Inc. on Irwin Bridge Road.

First confirmed case of measles in Georgia since 2012 reported in Atlanta

The Georgia Department of Public Health is confirming the state’s first reported case of measles since 2012. The infected infant arrived in Atlanta from outside of the U.S. and is being cared for at Egleston at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA). DPH is working with CHOA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to identify anyone who may have been exposed to the patient and to prevent further spread of measles.

Walter Rabon appointed deputy commissioner of Georgia DNR

Georgia Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Mark Williams named Walter Rabon as the new deputy commissioner of the Department, filling the opening left by Homer Bryson, who was appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal as commissioner of the Department of Corrections.

Rockdale Chairman Oden opposed to changes to South River permit

Rockdale Board of Commissioners Chairman Richard Oden said Tuesday he is “adamantly opposed” to a permit sought by the city of Atlanta that would reduce federal limits on pollution that the city’s wastewater system dumps into the South River.
