Davis is gathering orders for the spring Plant Sale that runs today from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Annual, perennial and vegetable plants are available. Pied for a good cause

Porterdale Elementary School students and staff members participated in a pie-throwing contest on Friday afternoon to raise money for Relay for Life. Students donated a dollar to throw a pie in a teacher's face. Pictured is first-grader Hector Nava hitting fifth-grade teacher Debora Ondracek in the face with a whipped cream pie. The popular event raised more than $1,000.

LETTERS: Charter schools are a big danger to the public

I've been very interested and somewhat confused by all the chatter about "Charter Schools." I've barely gotten into the rules on the Georgia Department of Education website when it became very clear what is going on. Apparently the state is assisting the federal takeover of education. The whole apparatus of petitions and assistance is geared to obtain federal grant money.

Covington man dies in Forsyth County trench collapse

CUMMING, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a Newton County worker who became trapped in a trench in Forsyth County Tuesday was dead by the time rescuers were able to reach him. Rescue crews recovered the the body of Aaron Banks Tuesday afternoon.
