Search for suspects in Walmart homicide continues | PHOTOS

Police are narrowing in on identifying the two suspects who ran over and killed a Newton County woman, Marsha Johnson, Nov. 16 at the Covington Walmart. Authorities believe the pair were likely the suspects in an armed robbery of another elderly woman Nov. 12 in South Carolina and have been linked to a poultry plant in Tennessee, where Johnson’s credit card was found. A $10,000 reward is being offered by the Covington Police Department’s Police Who Care Fund, the Chattanooga Police Department, Walmart and Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest of the two suspects depicted here. Protesters against long-time county attorney prevail | PHOTOS

Citizens took to the streets in Covington Tuesday in protest against longtime County Attorney Tommy Craig. Public pressure has been mounting against the Board of Commissioners to cut ties with Craig, who has billed the county for more than $1 million in legal fees in each of the past two years and who has overseen the costly Bear Creek reservoir project that has been shelved since the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers administratively withdrew the 404 permit application. After voicing solid support for Craig earlier this year when they unanimously reappointed him to his 39th year as county attorney, the Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 during its meeting Tuesday night to hire an in-house attorney, effectively removing Craig from county service.
