Unicorns sculpted from plants help give the name of the Atlanta Botanical Garden exhibit, “Imaginary Worlds: Plants Larger than Life,” its name.

Photographer Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith captured these images of live plant sculptures, or mosaiculture, on display at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens through October. The process involves planting thousands of annuals into soil-and-sphagnum moss filled netting covering steel forms. The plants are watered through an irrigation system beneath the surface of the sculptures and trimmed regularly to maintain their shapes. The display, staged by International Mosaiculture of Montreal in conjunction with Atlanta Botanical Garden, and dubbed Imaginary Worlds, is the first major exhibition of this kind to be presented in the United States.
