Photo detail

The reason this little guy looks so intelligent is probably because he is. He's a YorkiePoo, a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Poodle, two of the smartest breeds of canines. He's only 8 months old and has been named Sam. He weighs between 8 and 10 pounds and probably won't tip the scale at much more than 10 pounds when he's fully grown. He's up-to-date on shots and worming and is ready for his new home. New owners should plan on doing a little extra grooming. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
