Nothing is as sweet as puppies whether they are purebred or mongrels and this brother and sister duo are no exception. Honey (right) and Bert, who also have a brother that would like a new home, too, are Dachshund-mixes. They are only 7 weeks old and would love a soft bed, cozy and some puppy kibble with a family who loves them. They're up-to-date on shots and worming and are expected to weigh between 20 and 25 pounds when fully grown. They can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
