Jack is a Dachshund-mix featuring the long body and short legs of his breed. He weighs only 8 pounds and is a little nervous at the shelter and is eager to find a new family. Because of his small size, he is best suited for a family with older children or just adults. He was found as a stray and has had quite a trauma and needs the love and care of a new home. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
