This lovely lady named Carrot is up for grabs at the Newton County Animal Shelter. A mare, believed to be approximately 4 years old, she is looking for a grassy pasture and a comfy stall. She has been Coggins tested. Sealed bids beginning at $200 are being accepted through noon on Feb. 1 at the shelter located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
