This little gal has been aptly named Peanut. A young pup, she's a Beagle/Chihuahua-mix and if you can't stop yourself at just one, she has four siblings at the shelter who are also awaiting adoption. She'll probably weigh about 20 pounds when grown. She's looking to wiggle herself into someone's heart. She can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal. - Staff photos by Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith
