Photo detail

This old winged elm tree saw one too many storms Thursday night and crashed to the ground when its deep roots let go near the intersection of George and Asbury streets in Oxford. It is estimated the tree was nearly a century old. The city of Oxford had so much work to do as a result of the spring storm they contracted with Monroe Tree Work to help remove the debris Monday. Here, employee Rodney Scarborough takes a chain saw to the massive elm. - Staff photo by Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith
