There's seven chances for happiness as Wilma is only a representative of the seven-pup litter available this week. They appear to be sweet-tempered Beagle-mixes and there are two females and five males in the bunch. They are just seven weeks old and have had their first shots and been wormed and are anxious to work their way into someone's heart. Wilma, or one or more of her siblings, can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal. - Staff photos by Sue Ann Kuhn Smith
