The Porterdale Police Department is the proud recipient of a $10,000 Traffic Safety Grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. Officials were on hand Monday night to present the funds to the city of Porterdale. The PPD will use the funds to purchase speed detective devices such as radar and lasers, Alco-Sensors used to detect impaired drivers, as well as traffic cones and safety vests for officers to use during road blocks, according to PPD Public Information Officer and grant manager Doug Clifton, who added that officers would also be trained to be child safety seat technicians and for impaired driver certification. "Part of the requirement for the grant is to participate in 'Click It or Ticket' and 'Under the Influence, Under Arrest,' state programs usually conducted over holiday periods," Clifton said. "Also, we must consistently monitor traffic enforcement through the year as part of the grant requirement."
