Minnie the Chihuahua is looking for a loving lap to nestle down in and feel secure. She only weighs about 2 pounds and was brought into the shelter as a stray and is feeling quite out of place with all the larger dogs barking at her. She is approximately 1 year old. She can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal. - Staff photo by Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith
