Southern Heartland Arts, Inc., a nonprofit organization supporting the visual arts in Newton County, presented scholarships to several graduating seniors at the May Art Guild Meeting. Pictured, left to right, are scholarship winners Brittany Worton, Ashley Larrimore, Taylor Tipton, Kalin Jordan, of Eastside High School, and Emily Richardson, of Newton High School. The students, along with their families and friends, were guests at a reception at Southern Heartland Gallery on the square. Checks for the graduates, drawn from The James P. Hayes Cardinal Scholarship Fund, were presented by Susan Adams, chair of the Guild Scholarship Selection Committee. The Cardinal Fund was seeded by Lisa B. Hayes in memory of her late husband, James. Hayes has continued to support the fund, along with contributions from membership dues, the guild's annual fundraiser, Monte Carlo for the Arts, and with corporate support from United Bank, Air Conditioning Specialist, Inc. and many other corporate and individual donors. Southern Heartland Arts, Inc. also provides scholarships for its summer art camp program; this summer there will be four regular camps, two in June and two in July, and advanced teen and adult workshops in June held by Elise Hammond. Contact the gallery at 770-788-8799 for additional information. -Special Photo
