Experts say black dogs have a harder time being adopted, but surely this young man will be an exception to that rule. His shiny coat and intelligent eyes denote that he's a healthy and bright puppy that would make a great addition to any family. Only 3 months old and believed to be a Dachshund-mix, he's long and lanky an will probably weigh between 25 to 30 pounds as an adult. He was found as a stray and can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
