The Covington Elks Club recently donated 1,600 dictionaries to Newton County third grade students. Here, Jadden Mitchell, a student at Middle Ridge Elementary School, accepts his dictionary from Elks Lodge 1806 Past Exalted Ruler Jack Wheeler. Research shows that third-graders benefit more from having their own dictionary than other grades. They use them to look up meanings of words, how to spell a word and how many syllables in a word.
