The students of West Newton Elementary School will have more to read.

The Learning Center, located in Oxford, recently donated 105 multi-cultural books to the school's Media Center. It was the desire of Marteeta Spradling, Vice President of the West Newton PTO, to see every space on the shelves filled with books. "Our students deserve the best learning environment possible. Seeking additional books was the least I could do," Spradling said. "Books changed my home.

My son started reading at two. I have seen the power of books on learning." This sentiment was echoed by Mollie Melvin, Executive Director of The Learning Center. "The more books in the home, the higher the child's reading level," she said. "Since school is a child's home away from home, it is fitting that the books are here." Ecstatic about the books, new Media Specialist Keisa Gatewood said that she loved the opportunity to work with an organization so in tuned with families and reading.

Pictured are Melvin, Gatewood and Spradling.
