Following a recent wedding, the mother of the bride topped off her daughter's big day by going to jail, according to the Covington Police Department.

A middle school teacher reported a case of simple battery to the Newton County Sheriff's Office. It seems her class was enjoying refreshments, including cake, with parents in attendance. A student made a comment to her about "shoving cake in her face." She said she told the student not to do that, but just as a picture was to be taken, the student did it anyway.

Ex-boyfriend leaves big mess at woman's house
A woman reported to the Covington Police Department that her ex-boyfriend had come to her house and made quite a mess. There was bleach poured in the floor and all over her bed with an ashtray full of cigarette ashes smashed into the middle of it. All of her clothing was cut in half, possibly by a knife found in the living room. The refrigerator was unplugged and left with the door open. In the laundry room, powdered detergent was poured all over the room and on the clothing left there. She estimated the cost of the damages to be about $300.

Man arrested after shoplifting steak dinner from store
A man was arrested for shoplifting at Kroger on Ga. 20 after he was seen leaving the store without paying for several items. A loss prevention officer saw him stuffing a tenderloin steak, a ribeye steak, a bottle of A1 steak sauce and steak seasoning down his pants.
