Staff Photo: Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith ---- Above, DOT crews continue paving the intersection at Hazelbrand Road and U.S. Highway 278. ---- At 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, the DOT will shift traffic on Martin Luther King Drive and Ga. Highway 142 beginning at Lochridge Blvd. Southbound traffic will shifted onto the newly constructed southbound lanes to allow crews to work in the median. Northbound traffic will not be affected. A new traffic signal will be activated in flash mode at Hwy. 142 and Wheat Street. the signal will flash red for motorists traveling on Wheat Street. At 10 a.m., Thursday, January 5, the signal will become fully operational, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution at this intersection. The DOT has announced that all scheduled and ongoing construction-related lane closures are suspended for the Christmas holiday period. The suspension will begin at 5 a.m., Friday and continue until 5 a.m., Tuesday. Emergency maintenance work in case of traffic accidents, and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents could still cause lane closures and/or delays.
