The Newton boys basketball team remained perfect through their first four games of the season after winning a pair of game at the four-team Rusty Wallace Invitational at Karns High School in Knoxville, Tenn.
Newton found themselves in an offense shootout with Etowah as the two team combined for 43-first half points. But in the end the Ram hurt themselves fumbling the ball with five minutes left in a tied game. The Rams lost 43-29 in the quarterfinal game on Friday.
As the Rams get deeper in the playoffs the competition will only get tougher. After narrowing getting past Central Gwinnett 15-14 last week the Rams are traveling to Woodstock to play Etowah in the quarterfinal round of the Class AAAAAA playoffs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Piedmont Academy played time-clock style football keeping Monsignor Donovan’s high scoring offense off the field giving the Cougars a 38-27 win on Friday as well as their third state final appearance in the last five years.
