Salem baseball standout verbally commits to UGA

Salem baseball player Jordan Scott has verbally committed to play collegiate baseball at the University of Georgia, the Scott family confirmed Friday.

Scott, a centerfielder and rising senior, was named a first-team all-Region 8-AAAAAA selection a year ago and is expected to join the Bulldogs for the 2016 season. He’ll also be the second Salem player to suit up for Georgia with current rising senior Jarrett Brown on the Bulldogs roster as a left-handed pitcher.

Salem finished 10-16 this past season, which turned out to be Chad Kitchens’ sixth and final season as head coach. Kitchens, who coached Scott through each of his first three years, accepted the head coaching job at Monroe-Area earlier this month.

Georgia went 26-29-1 in 2014, dropping an extra-inning contest to Mississippi State in the opening round of the SEC Tournament.
