Manziel begins OTAs after weekend in Vegas

Johnny Manziel did not spend his Memorial weekend in Cleveland with his head buried in the playbook. Instead, Johnny Football hit the road to Las Vegas for a busy few days that was documented on social media sites.

Manziel, the No. 22 overall pick in the NFL Draft earlier this month, returned from the extended weekend and reported Tuesday for the start of organized team activities after the rookie took advantage of a break in the schedule for a brief vacation.

The weekend featured his attendance at a party that included New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, a UFC fight and picture with UFC president Dana White, and a video of Manziel spraying champagne on guests at a nightclub.

Manziel said he still found time to study, posting a picture on Instagram with his playbook and a caption that read, “Guess it’s impossible to enjoy the weekend and study?”

The former Heisman Trophy winnner’s lifestyle and commitment to football has been questioned after a string of off-the-field escapades, but the Browns said last week that he was not a problem during practices and showed humility around his teammates. Manziel is taking snaps as a reserve behind starting quarterback Brian Hoyer.

“He’s quiet, actually,” Browns coach Mike Pettine said of Manziel. “He’s a good guy to be around. I think the guys in the locker room will be able to tell you that he’s a fun guy. But you can tell, when it’s time to work he works, and he’s very serious about this. You can tell he’s very competitive.”

The next public glimpse of Manziel could come Wednesday when practice is open to the media.
