Seventeen local players on All-Region 2-AAAAAA teams

Seven local soccer players proved their worth as they were named to the Region 2-AAAAAA first team with 10 more placed on the second team.

The Alcovy girls had three girls on the first-team roster with the Alcovy boys showing up twice. Rockdale had one member of their boys and girls team making their presence known as well.

Making the boys first team for Alcovy was captain Houston Kent, who is heading to Truett-McConnell College. During his senior season, Kent led the Tigers team in goals with 13.

“He’s extremely fast and has tremendous character,” Alcovy boys head coach Chris Edgar said of Kent.

“Camani Smith is the anchor of our defense. He’s extremely smart player who knows how to use his body and is always in the right place. He also makes excellent in tackles.”

Joining the Alcovy duo on the first team is Rockdale midfielder Shad-I Dawkins.

Rockdale led the way on the second-team with four players including three midfielders. On the second team are Devon Dawkins, Shane Woodruff, Djorn Barrett and forward Dominic Dixon.

On the second team for Alcovy are midfielder Colin Williams and goalkeeper Paul Roth.

Showing up on the first team for the Alcovy girls are forward Alex Jordan, defender Taylor Crews and goalkeeper Katie Barton with midfielder Mireya Arteaga representing the Rockdale girls.

Playing on the second team are Alcovy defender Aleya Bishop and Newton’s Precious Buddington (forward), Lacey Brackett (midfielder) and Cheyenne Walshingham (goalkeeper).

Also on the boys first team were forwards Trey French (Luella) and Luke Narker (Druid Hills); midfielders Tristan Turpin (Luella) and Insa Gueya (Druid Hills); defenders Julian Rugel (Druid Hills), Tobi Adams (Luella) and Johnathan Martinez (Morrow) and goalkeeper Austin White (Luella).

On the boys second team are Druid Hills’ Remon Temnewo and Daniel Medhin and Morrow’s Edwin Vazquez and Roneth Leiva.

The girls other first-team players are Druid Hills forward Heather Mase; midfielders Katelyn Bruno (Luella), Angelica Rivera (Morrow) and Alison Rugel (Druid Hills); defenders Renee Hamby (Druid Hills), Kristin Malcolm (Luella) and Jessica Atkins (Morrow).

Joining Barton as first-team co-goalkeeper was Morrow’s Esontay Mitchell.

The second team consist of forwards Kayla Trice and Anessia Rucker, both of Luella, and Morrow’a Jada Wadley and Druid Hills midfielders Ally Cochran and Haley Dobbs.
