Magnet student wins scholarship

CONYERS — Rockdale Magnet School student Gregory “Michael” Smith has earned a scholarship from the Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia (COAG). The $500 award will be presented to Smith by COAG Executive Director Suzanne Cross in the office of Probate Judge Charles Mays on Wednesday, May 21 at 10 a.m. Clerk of Courts Ruth Wilson, Sheriff Eric Levett and Tax Commissioner RJ Hadley will be present to celebrate the occasion.

“This may be the first time a Rockdale student has earned this award and we are all very proud of Gregory’s achievement,” said Mays.

Each year, the Constitutional Officer’s Association of Georgia (COAG) offers scholarships to Georgia students. This year, the association offered three scholarships, one each in the amounts of $1,500, $1,000 and $500. Applicants were required to submit a typed 1,000-word essay that answered the question: “Who are the locally elected constitutional officers and what differentiates them from other county offices?”
