Heritage girls shut out Salem on pitch

The Heritage girls soccer team clinched a state playoff spot with an 8-0 victory over county rival Salem Friday.

The Class AAAAA No. 10 Patriots (10-3, 6-0 Region 8-AAAAA) got a pair of goals and three assists from Faith Shelton and two goals each from Ray Brown and Sara Boggus in defeating Salem (1-7, 1-6) by shut out for the fourth consecutive season.

Before hosting Gainesville, which is also 6-0 in league play and ranked No. 5 by eurosportscoreboard.com, Thursday, Heritage will travel to Lakeside-DeKalb for a Monday game at 7 p.m.

In the nightcap, the Heritage boys won their fourth consecutive game, 4-1 over Salem. The Patriots (10-3, 4-2 Region 8-AAAAA) defeated their crosstown rivals for the sixth straight season.
