Late-game rally gives Eagles 7-1 win

GAINESVILLE — Eastside waited until the final inning before securing the 7-1 win over Chestatee to remain perfect in Region 8-AAAA play on Friday.

Eastside’s Hank Steele gave the Eagles the lead after heading to the plate on a bad throw following a sacrifice bunt in the top of the seventh inning. Chestatee soon found themselves in a predicament with the bases loaded after a walk and a hit batsman.

Drew Buckhault ripped a single up the middle and collected two RBI’s in the process to increase the lead to 4-1. Another walk re-loaded the bases for Peyton Pallay as he took advantage of the situation by belting a base clearing double giving the Eagles a six-run lead.

Gray Ritchey put the exclamation point on the game by striking out the side to end the game. Ritchey’s complete game performance added eight strikeouts to his stats with only a pair of hits and a pair of walks.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard early with hit batsman, leadoff hitter Austin Holloway, followed by a sac-bunt for a hit by Hunter Ballard. A Chestatee throwing error to first base allowed Holloway to score as Ballard legged it all the way to third on the miscue.

A fielding error allowed Chestatee to put a man on base to start off the home half of the second inning with the next batter blasting a double off the fence. The War Eagles looked to be in business with runners on second and third with no outs. A fielder’s choice would score the unearned run to tie the game, but Ritchey would register a pair of strikeouts to end the threat and close the inning.
