Husband, wife charged in connection with fight

COVINGTON — A husband and his wife were arrested after an argument escalated to a physical fight.

Mansfield residents Sean Ellis Stacey, 24, and his wife, Candie Diane Stacey, 25, of 23318 Ga. Highway 11 N., were arrested Sunday and charged with battery after the alleged incident.

According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home on Acorn Way off County Line Road around 10 p.m. in response to a fight.

By the time the deputy arrived, he was told the suspects had left in a Ford Explorer.

As he was leaving the area, the deputy saw a Ford Explorer that matched the description and initiated a traffic stop. The deputy saw that the driver, Sean Stacey, wasn’t wearing a shirt and it appeared he had been in some kind of altercation, said NCSO Sgt. Cortney Morrison.

“Mr. Stacey did admit to being in an altercation so the deputy had him go back to the incident location,’ she said.

Witnesses at the scene said Sean Stacey came to the home and began an argument with a 27-year-old man who was there.

“The verbal altercation then escalated between Mr. Stacey and the victim, during which time Mrs. Stacey became involved,” Morrison said. “She punched the victim, causing bruising and swelling on his face. Mr. Stacey then hit him multiple times, causing the cut to his bottom lip.”

The Staceys were arrested at the scene.
