COVINGTON — It’s time to lace up the sneakers and get running. Covington YMCA will host its 13th annual Cheerios Challenge on Saturday, April 19.
The active event includes 10K and 5K road races, 1-mile Fun Run/Walk and something new — a Tot Trot for children 5 years old and under.
The Cheerios Challenge is an AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifier and a chance for the YMCA to work in partnership with General Mills and other local businesses to create a fun, active community event.
“Participation in this event continues to grow tremendously each year, and we have come a long way in these 13 years,” said Kacie Brown, YMCA membership director. “It is an exciting day for the YMCA and for our community. Last year, we had a record-setting turnout of runners and walkers and are expecting even more participants this year.”
Brown said she and the YMCA appreciate the hard work of 116 volunteers who make the event possible.
“The excitement and support around the Covington Cheerios Challenge is contagious,” Brown said.
The event will be held at the YMCA on Newton Drive in Covington. The 10K race begins at 7:30 a.m.; the Trix Tot Trot at 8:45 a.m.; the 1-mile Fun Run/walk at 9 a.m.; and the 5K at 9:30 a.m.
In conjunction with the races, a silent auction will also begin during the packet pick-up at 10 a.m. Friday, April 18 and continue until 9:30 a.m. on race day.
The Cheerios Challenge is a part of the YMCA’s annual Healthy Kid’s Day Celebration. All proceeds from the event will go toward the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign, which offers financial assistance to families in the community who otherwise could not participate in Y programs.
