Riptides advance to sectionals

CONYERS — Four members of the Rockdale Riptides qualified to swim in the 2014 Eastern Section of the Southern Zone 14 & Under Age Group Sectional Championship Swim Meet starting today at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

The meet will include qualifying swimmers from West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama and the panhandle of Florida.

While Corey Kidd, Thien-An Maynard, Sarah Riley and Delaney Willette all qualified, only Maynard and Kidd will compete.

Maynard, 11, will compete in the 200 back today.

Kidd, 10, qualified to swim eight events: 50 free, 100 free, 50 back, 100 back, 50 breast, 50 fly, 100 IM and the 200 IM. He has chosen to compete in the 50 Back on Saturday and the 50 free and 100 back on Sunday.

Even tough Riley, 12, qualified to swim six events - 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, 100 fly, 200 fly and 100 IM - she will not compete. Rather, she will focus on the last meet of the season which is at the University of Georgia next weekend.

Willette, 13, qualified in the 100 back , 200 back and 200 IM. Nut due to injury, he will focus on recovering in order to compete at the University of Georgia on a limited basis.
