NCSO: Inmate attempts suicide in cell

COVINGTON — An inmate in the Newton County Law Enforcement Center attempted to commit suicide this week in his jail cell, according to a report filed by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

Sometime around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jade Brice Tramel, of 2 Willow St. in Porterdale, used a sheet to hang himself from the top bunk in his cell, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

“The inmate was transported to Newton Medical Center by EMS Med Unit 4 where he is being treated for his injuries,” the incident report states.

According to inmate information on the Sheriff’s Office website, the 18-year-old Tramel was booked into the jail on Dec. 3 on charges of driving without a license, possession of marijuana, possession and use of drug-related objects, failure to appear, and two counts of burglary.
