The Heritage girls soccer team accomplished two things Tuesday: the Patriots stayed unbeaten in league play and ended a long winning streak by the No. 5 team in the state.
Mady Carter, Kaley Wells and Ray Brown scored goals and Carter made a save in penalty kicks to lead the Patriots to a 2-1 victory over eurosportscoreboard.com No. 5 Flowery Branch, ending the Hall County school’s six-game winning streak.
Sara Boggus had given Heritage (7-3, 4-0 Region 8-AAAAA) a 1-0 lead with a goal six minutes into the game, but Flowery Branch (7-2-1, 2-1) scored the equalizer on a free kick midway through the opening half.
The game stayed tied for the next 60 minutes and through two overtime periods before the Heritage trio secured the Conyers school’s second consecutive penalty kick victory in the series.
Heritage hosts Apalachee, also 2-1 in region 8, Friday at 6 p.m.
