Ayanna Mitchell continued to add to a memorable high school career with a state-wide honor Saturday.
The Salem standout was selected to play in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Junior All-Star Basketball Game March 22 in Savannah.
Mitchell, an unsigned junior who among Class of 2015 players is ranked No. 45 in the Super 60 by Dan Olson of HoopGurlz, will be a part of the fourth season of the junior showcase.
The 6-1 forward averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds in the Region 8-AAAAA Tournament last month, helping the Seminoles reach the league title game for the third consecutive season. She then helped Salem make history with the program’s first-ever appearance in the Elite 8 by averaging nearly 11 points, including a 16-point game in the second round win over Kell.
The junior game will be played at Armstrong Atlantic University at 11 am.
It’s the second time in the last three seasons a Salem basketball player has appeared in the GACA event as Dedrick Turner played in the boys junior game following the 2011-2012 season.
