1st grader accused of 'inappropriately touching' female students

COVINGTON — A 7-year-old elementary school student is facing disciplinary action after he allegedly touched three fellow students in an inappropriate manner.

Newton County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Felicia Jefferson said three female students – two 7-year-olds and one 6-year-old – at West Newton Elementary School told a teacher that the boy had been inappropriately touching them on several occasions.

“The male student admitted to the inappropriate touching,” Jefferson said. “All parents were called in and they met with the school administration and the counselor. The male student was removed from the class and is no longer in the class with any of the female students.”

Jefferson said the boy is still at West Newton and will be facing disciplinary action there. She said that due to the age of the male student, no charges will be filed but juvenile services was notified.

“As soon as we learned of the incident, we launched an investigation and also notified local law enforcement,” said Sherri Davis-Viniard, director of public relations with Newton County schools. “We have been in contact with the parents of the students involved and the student in question has been disciplined. Due to federal privacy laws, no further information can be released.”
