The last time the Heritage girls were on the soccer field, they suffered an uncharacteristicly-lopsided defeat. The Patriots didn’t take too long to get back in the win column.
Faith Shelton and Sara Boggus each scored a goal as Heritage snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Clarke Central in the Region 8-AAAAA opener for both schools.
Heritage (2-2, 1-0) was outplayed Tuesday in a 6-1 loss to Grayson, the most goals the Conyers school has allowed since a 7-1 loss to McIntosh in the Class AAAA quarterfinals in 2012. But Friday the Patriots got Shelton’s first half goal in which she took on four defenders and scored, then Boggus made it 2-0 in the second half off a feed from Adrienne Risk.
The visitors out-shot Clarke (1-3, 0-1) 37-2.
Clarke Central got some revenge in the nightcap, defeating Heritage 1-0 to remain unbeaten.
The Gladiators, who won their league opener over Heritage (2-2, 0-1) for the second consecutive season, improved to 4-0.
