Porterdale man accused of propositioning teen

PORTERDALE — A Porterdale man has been arrested on suspicion that he sexually propositioned a 15-year-old female who was walking home one evening earlier this month.

According to the incident report filed by Porterdale Police Department Officer Maurice Kennard, the victim was walking along Ivy Street around 7:15 p.m. on June 14 when a black male standing outside gestured to her to walk over to him.

When she ignored him, the suspect reportedly walked through a neighbor’s yard to speak to her.

“As the offender approached the victim, he began to talk to her. In the beginning, the victim stated that the conversation was not out of the ordinary. As the conversation progressed, he began to make lewd comments to the effect of, ‘I want to make love to you’ … and other things of a sexual nature,” the incident report states.

Some of the victim’s friends arrived on the scene about that time, and they all continued to walk away, but the suspect, later identified as Robin Nathaniel Norman of 46 N. Broad St., continued to follow her onto the porch of a nearby home.

“While on the porch, the offender told her that he was 45 years of age and asked how old she was,” the incident report states. “She replied that she was 15 years old. The offender told the victim that in his eyes, she was 35.”

According to the incident report, Norman continued to persist in his overtures, at one time grabbing the victim and turning her around to look at her rear end.

Just about this time, the victim’s sister and her boyfriend came out of the home, so Norman whispered to the victim that she could come to his house and then showed her condoms he had in his wallet, the report states.

“The offender told the victim that he was going to get his face shaved and he would look 10 to 20 years younger. The victim did not reply to the offender,” Kennard reported.

After repeatedly asking where she would be when he came back after shaving, the victim said she would not be there.

“The victim turned to walk in the home and the offender grabbed her, turned her around and kissed her neck and told her he would see her later,” the officer stated in the report.

Norman then allegedly gave the victim a cell phone number.

The victim’s mother then contacted police. In the meantime, the victim’s father, who told police he had never seen the man before, called the number in an effort to get him to return to the home.

When officers arrived and began speaking with the family, the victim said she saw Norman walking outside in a nearby alley.

Officers approached the suspect, who said he was just out for a walk. They searched the man and found two condoms and a silver cell phone.

Norman began cursing at the officers when they told him why he was being arrested, denying he did anything wrong and threatening to sue the city of Porterdale, the incident report states.

Norman was charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes and simple battery.
