Wood Bat 15-under tourney start today

Eleven local baseball players will participate in the Perfect Game World Wood Bat 15-Under National Championship starting today.

Three teams based out of McDonough will include seven area players, led by a trio playing for the BigStix Gamers. The Gamers will open the tournament today against Lids Indiana Bulls Black at 11:30 a.m. at Woodland High School and rising juniors Auliver Astin (Newton) and Joshua Parnell (Heritage) will be joined by Alcovy rising sophomore Brock Carter.

The Bullpen Braves, which begin the tournament at the Aviation Sports Complex in Marietta at 9 a.m. against the 6-4-3 DP Tigers 14-Under, include Covington natives and rising sophomores at Union Grove High School Tyler Kindle and Jaylen Turner.

Meanwhile, OTC Baseball will follow with an 11:30 a.m. game at Aviation Sports Complex against another 6-4-3 DP team, the Cougars. OTC’s roster includes rising Salem freshman Cody Powell.

Chain Black team will be joined by a pair of rising Salem juniors Kawan Baker and Jarule Harrison when the Warner Robins-based team opens the tournament at the East Cobb Complex at 9 a.m. against Brandywine Rebels.

The Georgia Elite Yankees will have rising Alcovy junior Dawson White on their roster when they open against New England Ruffnecks at Dominion Christian School in Marietta at 9 a.m.

Georgia Select, based out of Loganville, includes rising Alcovy sophomore Jacob Spivey. Select plays Charlotte Megastars at 2 p.m. at Kennesaw Mountain High School.

Team Elite Grey (Winder) begins tournament play against Game Ready Athletics at Perfect Game South Park in Emerson at 12:30 p.m. Elite Grey includes Conyers native and rising Loganville High School sophomore Brady Abrahamsen.

Pool play will run through June 25 with the two-day playoffs running from June 26-27.
